Covington, Ind. - Earl Edward Doane, 72, of 521 Third St.,died at 5:30 a.m. this morning (Dec.18, 1969) at his home. He had been in ill health for the past few months. He was born Sept 29, 1897, in Covington, the son of Claude and Cora Martin Doane. He was married to Mildred McKee Oct. 23, 1920 in Indianapolis. She survives. Mr. Doane was a life resident of Covington, attended Covington schools and studied blueprinting and drafting at Tri-State College, Angola. He operated Doane Plumbing and Heating and was employed as a steamfitter at Terre Haute for several years before retiring. He was a member of the Covington United Methodist church, Pipe Trades Union Local 157,Terre Haute, Moose Lodge of Terre Haute, Covington Volunteer Fireman's Association, Indiana Volunteer Fireman's Association. He was active in community affairs and was a former member of Lions club and Conservation Club. Mr. Doane is survived by the widow; two sons, C.J. of Valparaiso and William M. of Martinton, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Wheeler (Edna) McMillan and one brother, Martin, both of Anna Maria, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday.
